Clinimax Ltd is a British company formed, in 2005, to advance the fight against Healthcare-Associated Infections. We recognise the value of in-house research and development and using our own manufacturing facilities, combined with rigorous quality systems, we develop and produce highly effective, quality products.
We have the confidence to test the efficacy of our products through independent agencies. In this way we support and provide the “evidence based argument” favoured by the NHS to prove unequivocally our disinfectants work. Efficacy must be combined with usability and our development chemists, microbiologists and nurses ensure all our products are designed with end-users in mind.
Clinimax Ltd. works with healthcare professionals providing highly effective infection prevention and control products, advice and training that help protect patients from life threatening conditions. We are specialists in the development of chemical agents designed to fight micro-organisms linked with Healthcare Associated (Nosocomial) Infections.
We work by turning innovative ideas into reality through cutting edge research and development and the manufacture of highly effective infection prevention and control products. Our advanced antimicrobial agents are supplied in user friendly formats to suit a variety of disinfection needs in the healthcare setting.
Bio-security is increasingly important in today’s world of new and potentially fatal pathogens. Micro-organisms are continually evolving, making new disease strains a constant threat in all areas of healthcare. As the creators and manufacturers of Difficil-S® and by working closely with infection prevention and control specialists, we supply the agents that spearhead the battle against antibiotic resistant bacteria, blood borne viruses, spore forming pathogens and other infectious agents that can cause so much damage in Healthcare environments.
Our mission at Clinimax is to remain at the forefront of bio-security technology by undertaking ongoing research and development. We will continuously improve, formulate, manufacture and deliver a range of world class infection control products under the Difficil-S® brand name.

Frequently Asked Questions
Difficil-S® is a powerful disinfectant which once prepared, produces a solution of chlorine dioxide, which is simple to use and is non aggressive to equipment (including mattresses) in the healthcare environment.
Most disinfectants commonly use hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid as their active ingredient. Difficil-S® uses chlorine dioxide, which is very different from products like bleach (sodium hypochlorite) or chlorine tablets (hypochlorous acid), both in behaviour and its chemical structure.
It has many advantages including;
- Up to a 5 log reduction against pathogens exceeding EN Standards for surface disinfection.
- No need to rinse.
- In-use life of 14 days once mixed.
- Non corrosive to virtually all materials.
- Can be used on most carpets and hard flooring.
Yes. It can be used safely and effectively without the health issues associated with hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid solutions.
Yes. As with all biocides, a COSHH assessment must be completed before use and the correct PPE clothing (gloves and apron) are recommended when making up the solution.
The solution has an in-use life of 14 days in the Difficil-S® 500ml bottle when made up and stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Chlorine dioxide is very different from products like bleach (sodium hypochlorite) or chlorine tablets (hypochlorous acid) both in behaviour and its chemical structure.
It has excellent biocidal properties and has been used for years to disinfect drinking water, for food processing and in oral hygiene.
Hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid can be corrosive to metals and plastics, whereas Difficil-S® has been extensively tested on a wide range of materials and is highly compatible with most surfaces and non-corrosive to mattresses and metal fittings.
Hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid can take up to 15 minutes to take effect where as Difficil-S® starts working after just 30 seconds of the solution being prepared. Also hypochlorite or hypochlorous acid has a short lifespan of just 24 hours where as Difficil-S® retains its efficacy with an in-use life of 14 days once prepared.
